We are saddened to learn of the death of Alvah Pyle, widow of Norvel Pyle who preceded his wife in death. Alvah would have turned 100 years old later this year.

Alvah and Norvel were long-time residents of the Big Sandy, Texas area. Their children include GCI members Norva Kelly (wife of GCI Advisory Council of Elders member and retired GCI employee Ron Kelly) and Kay Kissee (wife of GCI pastor Jim Kissee). All of the Pyle children attended Ambassador College. In addition to Norva and Kay, another daughter and three brothers and their spouses served in WCG ministry some years ago.

  1. Comments by Charlene: I first became aware of the Pyle family in Enola, Arkansas where Mr. Pyle was a teacher at the school that I attended. Norva and Natalie were beautiful little girls and were the flower girls at the school graduation that year. I didn’t meet them again until the beautiful girls, now grown up, were visiting the A.C. Campus and were being shown through my dorm room.

I was greatly impressed with Alvah’s ability in meal preparation. One time, the day after the Feast, Ron and Norva asked us to stay over night with them. They asked Alvah to prepare a dinner for us. Even though it was on short notice it was a marvelous dinner complete with home made desserts.

Alvah was the Proverbs 31 woman.

Comments by Norman: Alvah exhibited stately, yet humble, characteristics as she brought up the children. The lives of all of her children attest to her record as a mother.
I have pleasant memories of times spent with members of the Pyle family.

  2. Norva, sorry to hear about your mom. Your brother Dennis came to our home in the early 60’s on a tour and stayed with us.

  3. We are so sorry for your loss. May God, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, keep you all snuggled in His all loving and caring arms during this time – and always.
