LaVerne Wyatt-Paige

Here is an update on the previous prayer request for LaVerne Wyatt-Paige.

LaVerne has been moved out of the hospital to a rehabilitation unit while she begins radiation on the cancer that remains in her brain. So far she has been happy (making all her usual jokes) and dealing with the treatments well. Once the radiation has controlled the brain cancer, she will begin chemotherapy–probably a few weeks from now. A mastectomy will be performed after the breast tumor has shrunk.

Africa mission trip

This prayer request is from GCI Canada director Gary Moore.

Please pray for Leigh Smithson (from Canada) and Tim Maguire (from Africa) as they first travel to Malawi where they will join Kalengule Kaoma (from Africa) for a conference. Then Leigh and Tim will travel to Mozambique to visit some of the 87 GCI congregations there and check out two water wells that they dug during Easter weekend, assessing the benefit to the communities involved.

Please pray for safety as these men travel – the roads are not good and services that we take for granted are lacking.

Audrey Nickel

This prayer request is from Deborah Paz concerning her mother Audrey Nickel.

Please pray for my mother. Following fainting spells, she was hospitalized in Glendale, California. There they found two blocked arteries in her heart. Following angioplasty and stenting procedures, she is doing much better, but continues to feel faint. She is grateful for the many prayers and expressions of concern.

Elaine Elliott

This update is from Steve Elliott concerning his wife Elaine (click here for the earlier prayer request).

Elaine recently began a series of almost daily doses of radiation. This will be the last phase of her treatment for breast cancer. Here is a note from her:

Thank you for your prayers and kind words during the past several months. Please take time for a Jamba Juice or fruit smoothie to join us in marking the end to three months of chemo treatments and their after-effects. The prediction that the last treatment would “hit hardest” turned out to be true, but now I am thankful that is over and I am beginning to feel like myself again. On the 5th of July I will begin the radiation treatments, which will be 5 days a week for 7 weeks. I am not by nature a risk taker, but the many treatments for cancer do involve risk and I would appreciate your prayers that the Lord will minimize the side effects and that “the joy of the Lord would be my strength.”

LaVerne Wyatt-Paige

Michael Wyatt-Paige, GCI’s pastor in Phoenix, Arizona sent in this prayer request for his wife LaVerne.

My wife LaVerne and I are going through a difficult trial at this time, but God does bless. LaVerne recently had surgery to remove a tumor from her brain. The tumor extends from her breast cancer. Thankfully, the surgery went well and now she is going to have to deal with the breast cancer.

The doctors plan to keep LaVerne in the hospital for several days to several weeks to gain strength and then do a double mastectomy followed by in-hospital chemotherapy. I am thankful that she has already been moved out of ICU, and is eating regular food.

Thank you for your prayers. These expressions of kindness make this trial more bearable.

Brigida Rufian

Pedro Rufian, our pastor in Spain, sent in this prayer request for his wife Brigida.

I ask that in your intercessory prayers to our loving Father you would pray for my wife Brigida. During a recent visit to her gynecologist, a uterine myoma was found. Thankfully, most such tumors are benign, and after menopause stop giving problems. Later this month, her doctor will perform a biospsy. As always, we trust in our loving Father and in his care, knowing that our future is secure in Jesus Christ, no matter what circumstances we face in this life.

Kayte Wolverton

Kayte Wolverton, wife of long-time GCI elder Monte Wolverton, is fighting cancer. Recently, she had surgery for a bowel obstruction and new cancer cells were found. She is on a liquid diet since her bowels have not restarted. Kayte is being sent home from the hospital where she will receive home care from Monte and their daughter Monika. Monte says Kayte remains positive and a fighter. Please pray for the whole family.

Bonnie Albrecht

This follow up to a previous prayer request is from Bonnie’s son, Charles Albrecht.

I just talked with my parents, sharing with them that many in the church are praying for them. They are most grateful!

Mom is still in and out of tremendous pain and they are still trying to figure out why she is having such difficulty walking. She had a spinal tap today and they hope to have the results soon. They found a stress fracture in each leg from when she fell and they also found that she has an infection. These could certainly be contributing to her pain.

This situation has kind of crashed around them over the last couple of weeks, but they are making it. Their faith and the prayers are definitely helping. Thankfully my Aunt Marie is nearby – she’s been a big support as have my dad and sister Kathryn.

Please pray for relief and healing for mom and that the doctors find the source of her problems.

Colorado Springs fires

Please continue to pray about the wildfires burning in and around Colorado Springs, Colorado and elsewhere in the western United States.

As reported last week, we have several members and friends of GCI in the Colorado Springs area where the wildfires are of epic proportions. Some of our members there have had to evacuate their homes and all are affected by the smoke and by rattled nerves.
